Living in La Mata
La Mata sits at the northern end of Torrevieja with its own small centre, church square and a long Blue Flag-style sandy beach backed by a wooden promenade. Behind it is the Parque Natural de las Lagunas de La Mata y Torrevieja, which keeps a green edge on the town and gives you walking and cycling routes. It feels calmer than central Torrevieja while still being a short drive or bus ride from it.
Buying in La Mata
Expect apartment blocks close to the beach, many with communal pools, plus bungalows and townhouses a few streets back. Frontline and second-line flats carry a clear premium. Older blocks can have small kitchens and no lift, so compare floor, orientation (south and east terraces are prized) and whether parking is included.

Renting in La Mata
Winter lets are strong here because the beach and promenade suit long walks, so good flats book early for October to April. Long-term, year-round lets exist but move fast; ask agents to flag owners switching from holiday to long-term use.
